Faller Power/Free-Fall Tower - Alternative Cable Threading Guide

In the past I have received requests for help regarding the threading of the 'cable' on the Faller Power/Free-Fall Towers. I have produced this page as an alternative to the threading instructions contained in the Faller Instruction manuals (pages 9 - 11). The results should be the same, but hopefully my instructions will be a little clearer. Please note that the numbers I use in the various steps below do not correspond to those shown in the manuals.

Before starting, check to make sure that the orientation of the car to the tower (when viewed from the front of the model) is the same as in the photo below. In particular note the position of the magnet, reed switches and large pulleys/wheels.

A) Before fitting the thread, loosen the two screws that hold the motor in place and slide the motor out of the way so that the large central Take-Up reel is free to rotate.
Start by introducing the thread through the hole in the Take-Up reel, over the small pulley and up through the hole in the baseplate (1).

B) Continue the thread (1) up the side of the tower, between the 4 small wheels on that side of the car, and up towards the overhead pulleys.

C) Pass the thread (1) over the overhead pulley and back down towards the car (2).

D) Pass the thread (2) around the large wheel of the car and back up (3) to the next overhead pulley...

E) Pass the thread (3) over the overhead pulley and back down to the car (4).

F) Pass the thread (4) between the 4 small wheels on that side of the car and down towards and through the baseplate.

G) Pass the thread (4) over the small pulley, under the Take-Up reel and over the other pulley and back through the baseplate (5).

H) Continue the thread (5) up the side of the tower, between the 4 small wheels on that side of the car, and up towards the overhead pulleys.

I) Pass the thread (5) over the overhead pulley and back down towards the car (6).

J) Pass the thread (6) around the other large wheel of the car and back up (7) to the next overhead pulley...

K) Pass the thread (7) over the overhead pulley and back down to the car (8).

L) Pass the thread (8) between the 4 small wheels on that side of the car and down towards and through the baseplate.

M) Gently pull the car down towards the baseplate. Once the car is at the very bottom of the tower, tension the thread slightly and tie together the two ends of the thread (1) & (8) - making sure that the thread (1) still passes through the hole in the Take-Up reel.

Before sliding the motor back into its holding, test that the car is pulled up the tower by turning the Take-Up reel.
When the Take-Up reel is released, the car must descend under its own weight.
